Okay so when I got asked to provide the balloons for a homecoming of course I was over the moon. If I have one thing as a balloon artist it is to be able to decorate every kind of event, and a homecoming was absolutely on that list. And let me tell you there wasn’t a part of this floor that was untouched by balloons 😍 As a balloon artist sometimes is so hard to gauge how many balloons to blow. This install kind of struck a soft spot with me. When I first came to @jaxon_engineering it was my first big event I had ever done. It was 2 years ago for a Christmas party. I didn’t have my trailer, I blew everything on site and it took about 3 full days. I legit had no idea what I was doing. Here I am almost 2 years past, and I have my own trailer, I preblow everything and it only took 6 hours to install. Come with me and make a 24 foot balloon arch from supplies from @homedepot First make your favorite unpaid employee drive you so you can be a passenger princess and annoy him by watching the same YouTube video inside 100 times while you try to figure it out for the first time. Wood for the base was first. I recommend plywood it’s sturdier and they had these perfectly sized pieces already cut. I recommend 2 pieces for each side. One just didn’t seem heavy enough to support the arch. I screwed two together for each side. Then plumbing. You’re gonna need a few items here. First the flange. This will be screwed down into the middle of the plywood later. You will need 2 sized 3/4” Then a nipple (I laughed too). They have tons of sizes I personally went for the 8”. This will screw into the flange. I figured the taller it was the more support it would have. Over to electric! You’ll need 2 pieces of 5 foot 1/2” EMT conduit. It asked for 3 foot in the video, but you would have to get it cut. My homedepot people swore they didn’t do that onsite anymore. So I went with it. This will slide into the flange and nipple. It made the arch taller by not being cut and I personally liked how tall it was. If you need it shorter you will need it cut down. Some people will get the pvc pip where you have to get the white connectors. If you use the grey schedule 40 the ends have built in connectors so you don’t have to worry about another piece to keep track of. They literally slip together. They come in 10 foot pieces. These I did have to cut down at home to 8 foot. Grab 3 of these for a 24 foot arch! I chose to spray paint the bases because aesthetically wood was not cutting it for me. My employee assembled all of the pieces and “forgot” to take videos. If you have any questions reach out! This isnt the first time this has happened to me 🤣 first time I had a bag of balloons strapped down in the bed of the truck because the trailer was full to the brim. Little did I know the bad was actually not secure and out blows my bag on one of the busiest roads. Luckily a random truck of construction workers gathered my bag held it out the window and met me at a Walmart down the road. This time I was loading up for another huge event and somehow the wind perfectly gusted into the trailer and took my bag. Wanted to do a day in the life of a balloon artist. Yesterday was such a fun day. Ive started to really focus on the gigs that resonate with me. The day started off with a homeschool lesson dazzled up with balloons. @ln2scienceguy with Liquid Nitrogen Science experiments! We learned about the properties of atoms in the world around us. What happens when things get really, really cold? How about 300 degrees below zero? Help make creamy LN2 ice cream and see flowers that shatter like glass! Then I stopped by @toodlestearoom for some tea. I wasn’t sure what I was walking into but it was STUNNING. It’s the cutest and will definetly be back to sit down and take in the ambience! So off to @loyalcoffee for a matchy. They hand-make all their syrups which always makes for the best drinkys. Last stop for @soiree.bridalboutique grand reopening. This space is unreal. What used to be an old body shop turned bridal. The character in this place is unreal. I was over the moon to make a floating install. And of course to top off my great day. We got the inquiry to do a balloon display for a running shoe debut. Originally I wanted to do a balloon mosaic similar to the branding provided. I attempted it, and it came out looking like a bomb pop so I had to pivot. And thankfully I did, this setup turned out 100 times better than my original plan. We’ve been in a little funk and taking some time to just recollect. But today this popped up on my memories and it reminded me that I’ve come so far. A little over a year ago is when discussions began on how I could expand from doing only balloons. I had seen the giant ball pits all over instagram and did my research to see if anyone was doing them in Colorado Springs. There was none. I spent weeks reaching out to companies all over the US, asking for any advice, where to buy these gigantic ball pits. With zero responses. I finally reached out to a company in Denver and got asked for any and all advice they had for someone first starting out. @tinytots5280 answered all my questions and some. …. When she didn’t have to, she did. I can’t thank her enough. Fast forward a year later. I always find myself helping a fellow artist because of the struggle I went through. A friend messaged me asking if I had extra balloon shine for another artist she knew. Luckily I had an extra can. Living in Colorado Springs you have to order EVERYTHING unless you wanna hike up to Denver. Long story short being kind really can change someone else’s life. I’ve installed a lot of balloons onto a lot of things. And honestly my go to prop is a ladder. Shocking I know. But it’s my favorite. It’s stable, super broad sides and lots of steps to attach to. It’s actually a dream to build off of. One day, a client forgot the backdrop they wanted to use and had nothing else to attach to. I think every balloon artist has a list of all the themes they want to do. A “bucket list” per se. My client called and told me the vision she had to do a roaring 20s party. I pulled up to this baby shower completely confused on where I was, in the middle of an area that’s mainly auto body shops and industrial type businesses. I walk inside and think okay this place is pretty sweet. Make my way upstairs and find this room with all the doors open and see the view. Absolutely stunning. Make my way back inside and see some rubber flaps and get curious. To my amazement I find this room literally FULL TO THE BRIM WITH WHISKEY. The video doesn’t even do it justice. LAST FORD AMPLITHEATURE OPENING POST. Haha and then back to our regular content. I needed to showcase these spiral towers. They were the real OGs for this event. I used them all 4 nights of the opening. With minimal popage. They were originally only intended for the soft opening but when I saw how well they held up I decided they would look great at the entrances of the amplitheature. And boy did they look amazing. This was one of the million new things I learned for this project. Which is the one thing I’m the most thankful for out of this entire experience. Second FORD marquee install on day 2! This day it literally rained for the entire setup (almost 4 hours on and off) I swore that it wasn’t going to stop. When it finally did it was only an hour before doors. I finally got to strip down and out of my wet poncho. Just to find where my pants had got wet had seeped up through my entire jumpsuit 🤣 just soaked head to toe. I can’t tell you how thankful I was to get home and get dry clothes on. So here we are day two of my 4 day event. First day I rent a massive Penske semi moving truck. Loved it and felt like a boss using it. Buuuuuut it was not cost effective and given I had one less install I figured I could get away with using my trailer and truck. Here we are driving down a very busy street in Colorado Springs and I have literally everyone waving me down. I lost a bag of balloons 😳 I was SOOOOO lucky some construction workers grabbed it and met me in a parking lot, then proceed to help me get everything restrapped down. I continue on my quest very slowly and with hazards this time. When I pull up I see how LUCKY I am more didn’t blow away. They are hanging on by a strap out of the bed of my truck. Here comes the marquees 😍 Once the rain passed, I was finally able to get some shots of the balloons around the marquees. Though I enjoyed making all the behind the scenes, I think showing what I actually created is really important too. On the 3 nights of One Republic I recreated different setups in 2 locations. Absolutely living for the closeups of all the balloons. Nothing compares to professional pictures of any install. This was day 1/4. I was over the moon to be involved in such a huge opening. I can fully admit I’m that mom that’s always looking to make a reason to celebrate. I had some balloons left over from an event and reached out to my bestie about throwing a little party for our little ones before they went back to school. But we didn’t want to spend a ton of money, I’m here to tell you that it’s possible! And the kids had the best time. @laalaa_laannd provided all the yummy snacks and I took a trip to the Dollar Store for the table settings! It’s my go to spot for all parties! Listen I’m all about the settings for the kids but without breaking the bank. Would you believe for my kiddos parties I get most of the supplies from the dollar store and dress them up?! I know that the kids are gonna do the activity for approximately 10 minutes and then they completely move on. Everyone “fluffs” different. Im here to say I use multiple techniques. My personal favorite is using a rubber band or a clear 260. I love tying neck to neck don’t get me wrong, it looks great on stationary balloon garlands. BUT I personally enjoy how easy a rubber band is and it makes it so easy to manipulate the balloons especially if they shift in transport or using a column like I am in this video. I’ve made my share of balloon columns but this was a first for me with the spiral and I’m obsessed. It’s so clean and professional but grabs your eyes with the precision. I did realize in order to make this column with ease I needed the right equipment. I purchased all 14 of my weighted stands and balloon sizer feom @havin_a_party @havinaparty . And let me tell you it’s a game changer! We were lucky enough to have two photographers on site for this style shoot. Some cringe at this idea but honestly it was so amazing to see two totally different perspectives. Both stunning in their own way. First set of photos is from @sunrisemediaco 😍. One of my very first styled shoots was one with her, being around all these creative minds fed my soul. This was my first weekend fully back into the swing of things. Two double slide ball pit bookings with full organic balloon garlands on several items and a styled shoot. And phew is this momma feeling it. But I am so beyond grateful. This install was hands down one of the hardest installs to date. The wind was 15mph, the install was completely exposed to the sun and I forgot my ladder 🤦🏻‍♀️ Luckily my client was understanding and had a small ladder I could borrow. I know any artist of any profession hates being unprepared. But in this moment I remembered I’m human and it’s okay to ask for help. I used an entire roll of fishing line just to support it onto the columns and keep it from taking off in the wind. In the chaos I second guessed myself the entire time. But come as I completed it and started taking photos and videos I grew to love it. It’s all part of the process. And leaning into your gut of what will and won’t work. Nothing is more special than getting to use your skill/talent on your own kids birthday party. It’s not often we get to see the reactions of the person being celebrated.
